How do I Turn an Idea into MY Art? [+]
Maybe you are part of a skateboard team. Get those skateboards, pads, helmets, T-shirts, shoes personalized! It’s easy. Once you login:
- Click on the “Enter New Idea” light bulb or the Post Idea tab (in the left-hand menu).
- Select an “Idea Category”.
- Enter one or more "Tags" (keywords) for your Idea, so you and others can find it.
- Give your Idea a Heading (title).
- Enter a description of how you want those duds decorated: team name, colors, design, maybe your mascot. You can also upload a file to let folks know your direction.
- Press the Submit button to post your Idea.
Now sit back and watch the TapSmack community take your Idea and make it real.
You'll get emails as soon as Designs or comments on your Idea are submitted. Smackers will also be voting on the posted Designs and, who knows… maybe the popular vote will highlight the one you like the most.
After selecting a Design, TapSmack can get it onto a T-shirt, mug, sticker, shoe, or other item so you can flash your personal statement.
How do I get my Idea to another Smacker? OR Can I send my Idea to someone who is not a Smacker? [+]
TapSmack sends out periodic summary Emails so all artists will be aware of new Idea postings.
Also, with the TapSmack SHARE feature, you can send your Idea to anyone.
- Click on the SHARE button on the individual Idea page.
- Use “Email” to enter the address(es) to share it with your friends.
You can also post the link of your Idea on many other sites.
- Click on the SHARE button on the individual Idea page.
- We’ll show you where you can post your link.
How do I target my artwork for a TapSmack idea? [+]
- Click on the “Idea” heading and you'll see the full description plus any Designs that Smackers have posted.
- Type in a description of your work under the “Post a Design” section.
- Use the Browse button to locate the file name(s) of your artwork. (If you might want to have the Design put on a product, you can also upload High Resolution file(s) so all looks great when enlarged.)
- Mark whether you want to put the Design up for sale or just post for others to see.
- Click Submit and you will see that your “Design has been posted successfully”.
We do not want Smackers infringing on other people’s work, so you should only upload work that is original to you.
A thumbnail is added below the Post a Design section for everyone to see.
If I have a Design marked Not for Sale, how can I change that so others can get my artwork on various products? [+]
- Go to My Designs page.
- Find the Design you wish to mark For Sale.
- Click on the For Sale button under the chosen Design.
- Press Save at the bottom of the My Designs page.
At that point, your change is saved and your Design can be purchased.
My Design is tagged For Sale but it is not showing up that way under the Idea. Why?[+]
Most of the time, your Designs tagged For Sale will be shown under the Idea that way. But in the case of shoes, if there is no High Resolution file uploaded for any of the parts of the shoe, the Design will be marked Not For Sale no matter how you have tagged the Design. We need to have at least one High Resolution file that can be applied to the various parts of the shoe before we allow any shoes to be sold.
So upload one or more High Resolution files for your Shoe Design and then it can be available For Sale.
I posted an idea—how long will it take before I start seeing designs? [+]
Great art takes time. Our hungry artists can get you something by 3 – 6 days…sometimes faster if you inspire them with good details. Check back to see comments and questions on your Ideas (daily or hourly, its up to you).

What’s the Portfolio? [+]
Your Portfolio contains ALL the artwork you have posted to TapSmack, whether it addresses a specific Idea or just to share your skills with your fans.
You can view other Smackers’ Portfolios to admire or maybe to purchase a Design. Just click on a Smacker’s name when you see it to go to their Portfolio. If you see something you want, contact the artist and maybe they’ll hook you up.
Remember, do not post your whole Portfolio in the Ideas “Post a Design” sections that’s a NO-NO
How do I add to my Portfolio? [+]
What kind of file types can my Designs be in? [+]
Your artwork can be submitted in GIF, JPG, PSD, EPS, TIF, JP2 and PNG file types.
Why is my uploaded file all black or have a black background? Looks fine on my PC! [+]
Please make sure your Design does not have a transparent background. When it does, the default background on TapSmack is black and that may not be what you want for your artwork.
What’s this Voting thing all about? [+]
While viewing Ideas and submitted Designs, you can vote to let other Smackers know what you think.
Remember, we also have contests from time to time and voting is one good way to participate.
Let’em know what you think.
What’s this Voting thing all about? [+]
Hey, how come I can’t vote on my own Design? [+]
All right now… we already know you love it! See what Smackers think of your Design with their votes
How do I get friends involved?[+]
- Use Invite Friends in the left-hand menu.
- Enter your friends Email addresses or import them from your personal lists.
- Click Submit … that’s it.
TapSmack will send an invitation Email to your friends. BTW, word of mouth works too….
Referring to you (smacker ID) when registering earns you extra SmackCash to use in the Smack Store! Its our way of saying thanks for the referral.
How can I get TapSmack Artwork applied to real stuff?[+]
We're working to create a bigger “e-mall” of approved vendors than we already have who can apply artwork to real-life items like shoes, T-shirts, decals and whatever you can come up with. Check back with us on this.
How does a Design get applied to an actual product?[+]
- One way is letting TapSmack’s voting automatically put a popular Design into production.
The first step is to get 100 votes for the design which will move the artwork and the clothing item (shirt, pants, sweatshirt) into pre-sale. Once in pre-sale, the item needs an order minimum of 20 units to trigger production.
When is my credit card charged?[+]
Once production is triggered, you’ll be sent a confirmation Email. Your credit card is only charged when you use the link in the Email to re-confirm your order. If you provide your credit card info while in pre-sale, we will hold your info in our “secure vault” and charge the card only when you re-confirm.
Can I make any changes to the Design after it has been sent into pre-sale?[+]
Unfortunately NOT. All Designs that are voted into pre-sales will be printed exactly as they are shown on the site. If you do not like the placement or the colors of the Design then please do not order it. We recommend that you submit a comment soon after finding a Design you like and see if your requested changes can be made. BUT, we’ll still need you to have the 100 votes and order totaling 20 or more units for processing.
How many colors can a Design contain?[+]
We recommend 8 colors or less. Different shades of a color can count as a different color …so be careful. We’re still working on making this better, keep checking back with us….
HowWhat size should my Design be when I submit it?[+]
You tell us. But remember, the more complicated the harder it is for our professionals to work out and the more expensive it is to produce. We recommend avoiding going over the seams and designs that “bleed” off the edge of the garment. Recommendations are no larger than 15x20 inches (38cm x 50cm) for an average sized shirt.
What type of file should my Design be submitted in?[+]
Remember, we need to be able to pull apart the layers. So use any of the programs that support this feature. Please do not submit in JPG format for production!!! Also, make sure your work is at least 300dpi; the larger you want the image, the higher the density for a kewl image
Add explanation of difference between normal resolution file and High Resolution file[+]
What is your definition for each of these types of files? We do need to have something more in the upload section to make it easy for users to understand what is meant by HiRes.
What do you mean "High Resolution" file?[+]
This means a file with 300 DPI or higher resolution.
For printing purposes, we want to make sure you get a quality image. Therefore, the file used for printing needs to have a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Files just for online display can have a lower resolution.
Why would a Design be completely rejected?[+]
- If the design contains copyrighted material.
- If you use images that you don’t have permission to use (always get permission if it’s not your work).
- If the content of the Design is offensive or too provocative (we are not easy to blush, so give it your best shot). .
How do I change the artist flag for me? How do I change my TapSmack account info?[+]
I am an artist but didn't get that set when I registered. Or a typo was made when I signed up.
- Click on Edit Info on the left-hand side of the page.
- Change what you need to and press “Save”.
How do I change the artist flag for me? How do I change my TapSmack account info?[+]

- Duck > 50,000 Sc
- Master Duck > 250,000 Sc

You can only redeem SmackCash at the Smack Store. The Smack Store has ever-growing list of items that you can buy anytime you wish.
OK, I think I get Smack Cash. Is There Any Way to earn actual money?
[+]
Yes! When Design postings (both visual and audio) are sold on actual physical products or downloaded the Idea Creator, Artists, and Partner Organization share in the profits. For most items (T-Shirt, Stickers, Digital Art, Music, etc.) the breakdown is as followed:
- Idea Creator – Up to 30%
- Artist – Up to 30%
- Partner – Up to 10%
Example: If 1,000 Digital Art (@ $1) are sold for a Musical Band, the Band gets $400 (Idea Creator + Partner) and the Artist gets $300.
For Special cases, such as Non-profit donations, Wedding Donations, etc. the Artist gets up to 12% and TapSmack gets up to 8% (to cover hosting costs).
After selecting a Design, TapSmack can get it onto a T-shirt, mug, sticker, shoe, or other item so you can flash your personal statement.
Example: If a $5 donation is made to WWF, the WWF will get $4 and the artist will get $0.60.
How long will it take to send my order to my specified shipping address?[+]
This will vary per type and amount of product ordered. Typically:
T-shirts: 2 to 3 weeks time once orders go into production
Temp Tattoos and Stickers: 1 month from order time
Shoes: If printed, 3 weeks; If hand done, can take 1 month from order time
Audio: Almost immediately as we send a link to your Email address once purchase is successful
You can contact us if you need something in a hurry.
I think I found a bug. How do I report it?[+]
We are sorry if you have had some problems using TapSmack. Please do let us know about what you found. Send an Email to support@tapsmack.com with a description of your experience. As much detail as you can send us will help us fix problems which, in turn, helps all Smackers.
